Exploring “Purifying the Soul” – My Participation at the VONMO 2023 Contemporary Jewelry Exhibition and Performance in Beijing, China

I am thrilled to share my exhilarating experience as a participant in the VONMO 3rd Contemporary Jewelry Exhibition and Performance, titled “Purifying the Soul,” curated by the esteemed Felicia Li. This remarkable event brought together 63 artists from 38 countries, each contributing their unique perspective to the theme of soul purification through art.

The official poster of the VONMO 3rd Contemporary Jewelry Exhibition and Performance – The poster reads “2022” because the performance part of the event was held in 2022, but the exhibition had to be postponed to 2023 due to the pandemic

At this captivating exhibition, I proudly showcased part of my collection titled “In Praise of the Hand,” a tribute to the artistry and craftsmanship that defines my creative journey.

The exhibition itself was structured into three significant sections, each playing a pivotal role in the narrative of soul purification. In the first section, the works of art created by the participating artists were presented, symbolizing the essence of the artist’s soul. The curator, Felicia Li, beautifully articulated the significance of this step as a gathering of these unique souls to commence the purification process.

The exhibition culminated in a powerful performance at Quinghai Lake, where the souls of the artists, represented by their works, were purified and reconciled. This transformative experience, encapsulated in the second section, served as a profound symbol of rebirth and self-reconciliation.

The final section of the exhibition was a poignant representation of the artists’ souls, now purified and renewed, alongside the performance that marked the completion of this awe-inspiring three-part process. This section symbolized the artists’ rebirth, self-reconciliation, and the ultimate purification of their souls.

As the website of the exhibition beautifully articulates, “Self-reconciliation is also a kind of escape from death, or the symbol of self-‘Purifying’. Through ‘Purifying,’ our earthly desires, perhaps we, earthly souls, can return to the beginning of the world, where souls are reborn.”

Participating in this exhibition and performance was a profoundly moving and transformative experience, and I am honored to have been part of this global celebration of art, soul, and the journey to purification.
